captivatinghistory on Instagram: "In 1894, the Mutoscope became a widely popular coin-operated motion picture viewer, offering audiences a novel way to enjoy early films. By inserting a coin and turning a hand crank, users set a drum of still photographs into motion. As the images rapidly flipped past a lens, they produced the illusion of movement, much like a flipbook. Its straightforward design and ease of use made it a favored alternative to the Kinetoscope."
